This Sunday we will begin a series called Heartbeat. I have done some
research on the heart. Im sure that most - if not all of us know that
the hearts primary purpose is to - 24 hours a day - pump blood that
carries oxygen to the rest of our body.
And you probably know that the human heart is roughly the size of your fist and weighs less than a pound.
Here are some other things I found out:
Each day the average heart "beats" 100,000 times and pumps about 2,000 gallons of blood.
In a 70-year lifetime, an average human heart beats more than 2.5
billion times, pumping approximately 1 million barrels of blood.
If
all these vessels of the circulatory system were laid end-to-end, they
would extend for about 60,000 miles - far enough to encircle the earth
more than twice.
When your heart stops beating, there is no blood getting to your
brain. And within about 10 seconds, brain activity ceases and the body
begins to rapidly shut down. Thats how important your heart is.
Because
you are alive you know that your heart is beating. In this series we
are going to see the same thing is true of the church. You know a
church is alive if its heart is beating for the same things that make
Gods heart beat.
